If you plan on taking the train more
than once in the UK, its best if you purchase a British Rail pass
before leaving the US. This will save you tons of money, since
traveling in the UK can be quite expensive.
London has eight train stations
- Charing Cross - serves south
England
- Euston - the north and northwest
- King's Cross - the north and
northeast
- Liverpool St - East Anglia
including Stansted Airport
- Paddington - the West, including
the Heathrow Express
- Victoria - the south, including
Gatwick airport
- Waterloo - the south and
southwest, including Eurostar trains
Flying is cheaper faster alternative
to traveling in the UK. This is probably the only place on earth
where flying is actually cheaper then taking the train for four
hours. The Eurostar is $199 in second class to Paris, a flight on
Easyjet costs about 14.47 Euro
(Yes, that's actually the price to fly there one way), and its less
than an hour away. The UK is full of contradictions. You will have
to leave out of Luton airport, which is inconvenient if you are
staying in London, but there is express shuttle service to that
airport. Many people still choose to take the train, since taking a
flight involves long delays at security and airports are not located
in the heart of the city, like train stations are. Take my advice, if
you want to save money in the UK, fly.
