Eurail Selectpass (3 countries), as low as $243
There is no better way to travel Europe
then by train. Europe has one of the best transportation networks in
the world. It is much more efficient then the US. Very few people in
the US use Amtrak to travel long distance. However in Europe
traveling by train is both cheap and fast.
If you planning your vacation to
Europe, this site will give you pointers to saving money and traveling
like a pro.
Firstly, you must plan where you want
to travel to. Don't just assume that you can get from Milan to Pisa
late at night. Be prepared by knowing what cities you will definitely
be visiting. Know the train schedules for the city that you want to
visit. Arrive at the train station about 15-20 minutes before your
scheduled departure.
If you have not already
purchased your
ticket arrive 30 minutes before, many of the capitals have long lines
at the train station. You don't want to miss your train because you
don't have a ticket. Always purchase you ticket before boarding, you
might be fined if you don't. Look at the black board to know what
platform your train will be leaving from. Sometimes you won't know
this till 2 minutes before the train arrives, so be prepared. Many
stations have tv monitors to view train arrivals and departures. They
will also announce delays. Don't worry if you don't speak the
language, almost everything is in universally known signs or numbers.
When in doubt ask the information desk. Most are required to know
some English.
Almost all train stations will have a
tourist information desk, you can go there to ask for directions or
book a hotel. Though I would advise you to book your hotel ahead of
time, the tourist information desk can be very helpful.
When choosing if you a rail pass is
right for you, you must first know how long you will be traveling, and
how many cities you plan to go to. Most passes have restrictions.
Read the fine print carefully before buying a rail pass.
